Maryville Unaccompanied

Minor Program

Annually, PRCC supports Maryville’s Unaccompanied Minor Refugee Program with a Backpack Collection. Maryville provides temporary shelter care and other child welfare services for immigrant children, primarily from Central America. This is a federal program of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The majority of children are between the ages of 13 and 17 who arrive at the border unaccompanied by an adult and usually with only the clothes they are wearing. While donations of clothing, toiletries, etc. are given to each child upon arrival, they have nothing in which to transport these items. Good quality backpacks are requested by Maryville that provides shelter for roughly 600 children each year.
